I'm confused about the shipping costs. I just added Pass the Pigs and TtR: Switzerland, which total more than $25 (which I thought is when free shipping kicks in), but the Amazon ordering thing still wants to charge $10 shipping.
Since I don't want to miss out on TtR: Switzerland, I selected the slowest shipping (5-9 days) which removed the shipping cost.
By the way, I really can't afford all of these games! Argh!

It is going to be a bit different. It will be offered exclusively at:
GameOtheDay.com. There are currently 6 items up. Over time, additional items will be listed. Free shipping when your cart hits $25.00. If you hit $150, you can apply coupon code "game5oct" which will take an additional $10 off at checkout. If you hit $250, when you apply the coupon code it will take off an additional $20!
The code is not exclusive, so once you hit $250, go ahead and checkout with it. You could then use it again if you once again hit 150 or 250.
This will not start until 3:00 AM EST, midnight Pacific. Something nice to wake up to!

Yes, if you think you'll hit those levels, you should wait to check out until you get there. I don't have any way to "uncheck you out". It's more automated, which means faster shipment, but a little less flexibility.
So our cart will save our items, and they won't be snatched up by someone else while they are in the cart then?
Won't we potentially miss put on am item if we leave it in our cart for too long?
David, unfortunately, I don't know if it's allocated to you when you put it in your cart, or only when you check out. I'll see if I can find that out.

I was away for a little bit, did I miss any Zoolorettos or Jambo Expansions?
Is it just me or what. Last thon, we seemed to have a little more rotation in the selections and a lot better pricing. The Antike that went up for $44 is the same price (with shipping) from ThoughtHammer. I guess at this point I would vote to go back to google. Just a thought or 2. Any luck finding out about items put in the cart be accounted for or is it only after checkout?

With Amazon Prime shipping, I was able to get my copy of No Thanks! for $7.99 with shipping. Thoughthammer's flat rate would have cost me $14. I'm definitely pleased with the switch. Even without Prime, getting up to $25 for free shipping isn't hard, and relatives are a lot more likely to send Amazon gift certificates than they are to send ThoughtHammer or Funagain ones.
Great point/counterpoint discussion... I think one of the big differences will be in fulfillment. You will get your orders from this Game-a-Thon MUCH faster than previous ones.

With prime shipping, I can see you point on smaller price point games. And yes, getting to $25 is easy. I can't argue that. But take for example if you buy both Samurai and Antike. Right now it would cost $74 from here and $68 shipped from ThoughtHammer. If you are only going to buy 1 or 2 small games, your right this is a better deal. Unfortunatly, I seem to start that way, and then I make a request, which Eric puts up right away and then it just starts to snowball form there and I end up spending a couple hundred. Its not like I won't buy anything from this 'thon, but I am just pointing out the difference using amazon.

As I understand it the new site includes shipping already configured into the price? Which of course would make it more expensive. But if you are Amazon Prime or you spend over 25 dollars and qualify for free shipping then shouldn't you get a discount on the item price? Because if you don't then you are paying for shipping (as it was included in the listing price) you're just not paying for it twice.
I'm Amazon prime so I love checkout through Amazon but if I'm gonna end up paying for shipping anyway with higher gaming prices, then I'd much rather go back to the old format as it was more customizable and Eric had more control with the ability to invoice and re-stock.

Well imported would be great, but I would take Rio Grande or FF or whoever. Things like Ruse & Bruse, Masons, Cheops and so on. To be honest, I have liked pretty much all the HiG games that I have played. And a lot of the ones that I don't have look pretty good.

Yes CJ. I will probably give you much more information than you really want, but maybe it will help understand the difference.
I pay on a unit and weight basis to have the items picked, packed and shipped via FBA. I also pay a transaction commission. When I sell through Google, there is no commission (at least through the end of the year) and depending upon where I ship from, I may pay just the shipping (if shipping from Va.) or a pack/pick/ship (if fulfilled via FBA). As you might imagine, the pack/pick/ship rate is higher if the fulfillment order comes from outside versus partnering with Amazon's checkout (and giving them a commission).
When using Google, the pack/pick/ship component has a per-order component and then a per item and weight component. The per-order component is high, so combining multiple items into a shipment is very important (otherwise I lose money on the Google sales). The problem is ensuring I have all inventory in stock at the same time to fulfill this way and unfortunately, that can result in delayed shipments (as several of you are aware).
Also, I don't have the flexibility to price differently at GameOtheDay.com versus what my listings on Amazon show up for. The commission I pay on Amazon listings are higher. So some of the items offered here I actually lose money on if bought off the Amazon site.
Overall, I believe the convenience and security of Amazon's checkout system, being able to leverage your prime membership, and getting faster shipments is a worthwhile tradeoff for many. I do realize it becomes less of a good deal for larger order sizes, which is why I have implemented the $10 and $20 coupons at checkout for the higher spend levels.
I welcome your ideas on this and any suggestions you may have to improve it. Thanks!
I think I can clarify a little about the items in cart that aren't listed. I am rotating items out, that does not mean there is no inventory left to fulfill the items and you should still be able to checkout with those items. It just means that it is no longer a published item at the GameOtheDay site.
Well I for one don't mind waiting for a shipment. Thats just the nature of the beast. I guess in a perfect world you could run the 'Thon concurrently at both sites. I know that with the 'game5' coupon at google I would tend to use that site more. I would still use the amazon site too. Just think of it, twice the amount of games to choose from.

Eric, Thanks for clarifying. I do understand more. Amazon is great with shipping and I think as we get closer to Xmas that will become more of an issue. I still haven't recieved all of my games from the last Thon so I understand delay issues.
That said I don't mind waiting on google orders at this point. It does bring prices down for both me as the customer and apparently you as the business as well.
As a test Thon I guess I'm going to reserve my judgement until this Thon is over and I get all my games in; but I will say that the higher prices even by a few dollars do make me hesitate a little more. I dunno about the rest of you but I spent over 250 on the last Thon and I don't have the financial means to hit the 150 or 250 markdowns every month. Maybe when I'm out of college and get me one of dem dere "real" jobs. LOL

For those with Amazon Prime. I just looked up Fifth ave., Australia and a few other directly through Amazon and the prices listed through Amazon are exactly the same as the one listed on the new game of the day site. So, if there's a game you really want but don't have the money for at the moment just save to your wish list. That's also true for those who want the free super saver shipping over 25.00.
The only advantage to going through game of the day that I see for those games amazon offers with Prime is getting the discount at 150 or 250 mark. However if amazon is offering a game that is not Prime or super saver shipping eligible then it is worth it to get stuff off the new siie.
If I remember correctly during the last Thon Australia was offered for 22.00 with game5 shipping it was 24. Through amazon and the new GoTD it is now 27 and change so that's 4 bucks more which would be what Australia was before the game5 discount during the last Thon.
I'm not trying to be negative towards Game of the Day's new efforts. I'm just doing some research and comparsion while Tanga is running the slowest Tanga-thon ever. Can anyone else believe that they have a $21.00 old jigsaw puzzle up right now??
CJ - one problem with your analysis. You'll note that the "exact same price" at Amazon is offered by Robinson Gamestore. That's me. It's like I said in my previous statement, the only way I can offer a price at "GameOtheDay.com" is to make the exact same offer at Amazon.
You can add it to your save list but it won't be at the same price if you don't buy it while it's listed on GameOtheDay because those prices will expire.
All of my best deals are listed here only with the reduced prices. There are many other items listed at my Robinson Gamestore Amazon site and at GreatestofTimes, but here is where you will find the ones that have been discounted the most.

The Desert/Winter board has been OOS for a LONG time. The Eastern Front is also OOS at the manufacturer, but I do have 3 copies.

As for Tanga, I joined 2 weeks or so ago when I heard everyone say it was a place for amazing deals. All I see from them (this Tangathon this time especiallly) is a handful of weak to mediocre games and stupid items like candy bowls. Meanwhile, Eric here is taking our requests and making things happen. I'm a GameOfTheDay fan for sure!

Wow - thanks everybody. Yes, I'll leave everything up now that I know that hiding them from the site takes them out of your cart (even though it's still in stock). I think this tells me, however, that the item isn't allocated to you until you checkout. That's usually how it works. If something disappears from here on out, it will be because it went out of stock.
Also - CJ - you have an extra $10 to spend - just sent you your rebate from the last 'thon.

I'm concerned that the inventory isn't decrementing until checkout. I only had 3 copies of Eastern Front. If you put it in your cart, raise your hand... I want to see if it is still showing if 3 or more people put it in their carts.
In which case it unfortunately becomes a question of who checks out with it first.

Do you get to physically inspect games before shipping? I'm tempted to get Duel In The Dark, but I've heard lots of complaints about boxes being very shoddy.
I've seen several Duel in the Dark boxes... all of them I've seen have been fine. The box that I have the most trouble with is Age of Empires III: Age of Discovery. Haven't gotten a perfect one yet.

Pozy.com was running a deal on AOEIII a few weeks ago and I managed to get one in perfect shape. I think 95% of the problem with those boxes is they are poorly-constructed and extremely weak. Once I unpackaged all of the components inside I stored them all in a brand new tackle box. The box barely is strong enough to hold a stack of papers, much less a board and all the pieces.

This current Tangathon is a joke. After having 27 hours worth of Tangathon, they have offered the following products that are actually worth buying:
Twilight Imperium (came up at about 4AM so everyone missed it)
Thurn & Taxis + Expansion (was gone in 15 minutes) I already got both copies of that here at GOTD.
Unless Tanga has a real ace of their sleeve, this Tangathon to celebrate their 1 year anniversary is doomed to being one of the worst of all time.
Anonymous: I guess it depends. Previously the shipping would be $7 for the first item, $2.00 for each additional so two items would ship for $9.00, 3 items for $11.00 and so forth. The break-even point is probably 3-4 games. But if you get to the $250 level, the $20 off I think makes it a wash again.
I do know that everyone will get their games MUCH sooner this way.

I'm wondering if the Game-o-thon is over?. Haven't seen a new game up in a long time. I remember him saying something like if he removed the item from the gamethon page, it would remove it from the cart for whoever is trying to get the discount at $150. I'm not at that point yet, but if something good was to show up... maybe...
Unfortunately, I can't take the old ones off in case people still have them in their carts. I do not know whether the new ones pop up on the first page or not.
I would love to be able to offer 1960 but I don't have it yet, so it will be another 'Thon before it's available.
Okay, I think I have a workaround. I will post the new offerings into the "Games of the Day" tab. This will give you a quick view of the latest new additions. Otherwise it will get difficult trying to find the new ones when they get pushed up.

I tried putting GAME5OCT all in caps for promo code and it didn't work. Also the prices for Palazzo, Mimic, and a few others went up again magically. I occasionally see a few pop up at the bottom ( listed as you may also like), which are not on either list, but is for sale. Now I have a hypothetical question:
Say I have a friend who has already checked out twice (say for $26.98 and $48.98) because he or she didn't want to miss out on certain items. Now say he or she is interested in purchasing some more (say $75 or more). Would he or she then be eligible for the $10 off since they have spent over $150 for this Game-A-Thon (but not this particular order)?
Matt, unfortunately the answer is no because the coupon only works at checkout for the items in the cart - the order total has to exceed $150 or $250 for the $10 or $20 off.

There are lots of other games that could be offered, those are related suggestions and you can add them to your cart, however they haven't been specifically added for this sale.

No chance of Hive yet, I'm afraid. My distributor still doesn't carry it and I haven't secured a good alternate source yet. It's been on my list for awhile now.
yes, what Patrel said above. sometimes you can look at an item, and either at the right side, or bottom it shows other games you can buy, and even some that are not in stock that you can look at and add to basket if its in stock.
Also. Pirate's Cove from DoW. Not sure if that ones out of reprint or not. But the kids like the pirate themed games. Dungeon Twister . rpg games a big hit.

Yes, something is wrong with the checkout system. Mine is empty, but has a subtotal of $8.99 . I too have Jambo expansion it it. I cannot check out with the money problem.

Maybe there is a cookie I need to delete or something to really clear the shopping cart. I am assuming the $8.99 it is showing is because it had the Jambo Expansion in it, and it got removed. I would suggest everyone who ordered something do a double check on the charges, as it looks to be having trouble.
Anyone who is having a checkout problem, please send me a screenshot so I can have the technical people work on resolution.

I ordered Zooloretto two days ago...just checked on the status and it says I should receive it between OCT 30 and NOV 5 (That's almost three weeks)...doesn't bode well for shipping getting faster.
Hank, I think that date is an estimate from Amazon, and a very bad one at that. Stuff that I ordered from the beginning of the GameAThon (my first posts in this comments section) already shipped out yesterday.
Rory, Thanks for the ray of hope. I called Amazon and they said the order was still in the fulfillment stage...whatever that means. They also reiterated the posted delivery dates. Hope they're just going from their script.
Cookie deleted and problem fixed. I don't have a screenshot, but it looks like if you have an item in your basket, and it sells out before you checkout, it will remove the item from your shopping cart, but leave an invisible charge. I literally had a $8.99 charge, and an empty shopping cart showing up. I assumed it was for the price of the now missing Jambo expansion.
No way to totally reset the shopping cart, so I had to delete the IE cookies associated with it.
Thanks for the info... will take this additional input into consideration for the next Game-A-Thon.
Well Eric , great game-o-thon and you even had Zooloretto in stock, which I had been searching 2 months for. I only had the one "hiccup" with the invisible charge in the shopping cart, but seems fixed now. If everything works out in how Amazon deals with their shipping, I will definetly be buying more games in the future from here. Prices are great when you take the discounts into account.
I've yet to try the google checkout method, but looks like either system should work well once the kinks are out. Amazon's checkout process is very seamless and easy, but I don't always know their method of shipping, which can be a hassle when working out of a P.O. Box sometimes.
For what it's worth, unless it is a small item, if I'm shipping from our Virginia location, it will ship Fedex, which does not allow shipment to PO Boxes, only physical street addresses.
